Developments

Here are a few things that have happened in the last few weeks that I haven't talked about yet. Let's call it a stream of consciousness catch-up.

The other day we were driving home and Norah was chanting something in the back seat. She talks to herself all the time (she's very interesting, you know) so I didn't really think anything of it. Finally I turned the radio down to hear what she was saying. As it turns out, she was singing, "ABCs ABCs ABCs" over and over again. So I sang the song and she actually sang along! She sang, "ABC-EFG---------------------------NEXT TIME!-----" Not bad for 18 months.

When you ask her what the wheels on the bus do she replies, "Roun' an' roun" and does the motions. She also does the motions to Itsy Bitsy Spider. The only word she sings in the whole song is "WASHED!"

Norah is understanding some more abstract concepts relating to language too. Either that or she's a very appropriate mimic. When she and Daddy pulled into his favorite coffee drive-through yesterday she said quietly from the backseat, "Coffeecoffeecoffeecoffee" Then, once their order was filled and they were pulling away, she said, "Okay thanks. Bye bye."

She stays where I sit her when she's in time out. She also cries heartbreakingly well while seated.

She's pretty sure she's the boss of any dog we know. She gets a little frustrated when she feels that they're not listening to her well enough. It's usually because they can't understand her, or because she's holding food.

And finally my favorite (not for the circumstances but for the sweetness factor):

Thursday night she threw up four times. She never does and she wasn't sure how to handle it. I think she was pretty scared. So after her second full-on bath of the night, I tried to make her feel better. I said, "You got TWO baths tonight! Isn't that special!?!" She looked up at me with her watery blue eyes, patted me on the shoulder and said, "Mommy's special." Then, patting Mark, "Daddy's special."

Say it with me...

AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww.
