Do you see her holding her baby sister's hand? How precious is that!?!
The place to come for news, updates and general nonsense from the daily life of the Jones family!

Little Teacher
Last weekend we got out the baby gym. Norah set about "teaching" Penn how to play with it.

The Park
On Saturday my parents and I took the girls for a walk in the wagon and we found ourselves at a local park.
Norah would climb all the way to the top of the slide, but she wouldn't go down without an escort.
So we all got in on the slide action.
And this is about all we saw of her in between turns...

When Irish Eyes are Smiling
Let's face it, most of us in this great country are mutts, ancestorily speaking. Along with my very Scottish maiden name, I know of German, Welsh, French and English ancestry in my family. With the last name Jones, Mark's family either comes from Whales or they had a name too "ethnic" or difficult to pronounce, so it became Jones for the purposes of matriculation. I haven't looked much into our family history but I bet if I did I'd find that we're both a pretty fair representation of the Western part of the EU.
In any case, for Saint Patrick's Day I'm going to pretend that her eyes are Irish. I sure don't have to pretend she's smiling!

**On a side note, Penny's outfit in this post and Norah's outfit in the Elk Farmer post are both from my Aunt Kathy. They were the very first coordinating outfits ever given to the girls. So thoughtful and SO cute!**

Durango Girl
Norah insisted on wearing her new Tinkerbell jammies to my mom's house this morning. The bag of extra clothes I packed was left sitting forlornly by the mudroom door, so my mom dressed her in the extra clothes she had.

A t-shirt she had to wash the other day because Norah threw up on it, a pair of pants from last summer (now capris), some wool socks and a pair of sandals. Norah topped it off with the beanie for effect.
Funny thing is, most people in Durango wouldn't look twice at this outfit. Not even on a grown up. That's what you get for living in a town once highlighted in Sunset Magazine for being among the least fashionable in the country.

Being Yourself
(On the way to school this morning, totally out of the blue)
"Mom, before I can marry the Husband I have to turn into myself."
"That's right honey. It's very important to know who you are and be yourself before you get married."
"Yeah, I just need to be on my own for a little while."
I'm fairly certain that she was relaying a scene from the movie Shrek wherein Princess Fiona turns into an ogre before she marries Shrek. This is why I don't mind her watching movies. Sometimes she gets stuff that I would never have thought to teach her.
So tonight I will record this conversation. I will play it for her every day from her 16th birthday until she graduates from college.

Dreamer
"Norah, do you see the elk on the side of the road?"
"I do Mom, I do!! ....Hey Mom, when I grow up, I'm gonna be an elk farmer."
"Really? And what will you do when you're an elk farmer?"
"I'm gonna grow really big, big elks!"

Museum Revisited
She kept telling me about the "clear blocks". I'm pretty sure she was talking about this part of the museum.

Growth Chart
A couple of weeks ago, we had to weigh and measure Norah for our insurance. As it turns out, she's gained 5 pounds and grown 2 1/2 inches in six months! Sheesh, no wonder toddlers get grumpy!
I perused the photos on our computer to see if I could find some good comparison shots. These are the best ones I could come up with:

This is Norah on her second birthday trying on the tutu I made her.

This is Norah on February 9th. The tutu is above her knees now.
Incidentally, we measure Norah on the same door that Bob and I were measured on as kids. When my parents sold their house they took it off the hinges, replaced it, and took the door with them. I highly recommend measuring your kid on a moveable object like my parents did (as opposed to a door frame, which would have been much harder to replace...) it's an awesome family record. I'm not sure who is going to get custody of that door once my brother has kids and starts measuring them on it too.
Anyway, according to The Door of Measurements, she's roughly the same size that I was when I was three. That's my girl!
